About

Auburn it appears was started in 1987 by Todd Huffman. Todd lived in Southern California and was co owner or helped run MOR Distributing, with Bob Morales. Todd was not just a business man though. He raced for SE Racing in the early 80s if I remember correctly. I cant recall if he lived in SoCal in those years but I seem to remember he raced out of Michigan for some reason. I think he raced in the Pro class. All this is from memory so I could be wrong.

I met Todd once or twice in those years trying to get MOR to carry Jammer Designs number plates, a small company I started.

If anyone can contact Todd so he can give us all the correct info lol, point him in this direction.

Hey man I know how to get a hold of Todd and Bob and I’ll send this link to them tonight. Can’t wait to get more info on here. Would you like the images I have of my Auburns?

To my knowledge none of the Auburn factory riders ever had a gusset added to their frames in any way. I have seen pics of the frame in question and it looks professionally done, In fact it actually reminds me of the gusset found on the MCS Magnum frames of the late 80’s.
I look forward to future additions to this fantastic site. A possible addition could be a photo gallery of peoples Auburns…I own a June 1988 CR-20R and also a September 1991 CR-20RX that I would be happy to add to the gallery should one be created.

Todd Huffman

Hi guys,

Todd Huffman here…Thanks for putting this blog up. Very cool! I have just got back the very first Auburns ever made and will send some pics. Just a few facts:

1) I raced A (or B pro in NBL) for SE Racing from 1980-1983 and lived in the Long Beach area with both Rod Beckering and Steve Giberson. I also worked for SE from 1982 through 1985 when Bob Morales and I started MOR Distributing by going to a auction for Torker. We started the company working out of the Dyno offices inside GT Bicycles.

2) Auburn was created in 1987-1988 and was named not after the famous Nor. Cal BMX track but after the Auburn classic automobile. The first prototype was actually made in Taiwan before GT figured out how to make them in their HB facility for us.

3) The first rider to actually race an Auburn was Rod Beckering and he raced the Taiwan prototype at an Irvine NBL Race. Then Gork introduced me to TC and the rest is history. Todd Corbitt is still one of my (if not the) best friends to this day.

4) GT took over the Auburn brand in Sep of 1989 when I went to work there as Director of Marketing.

Hope this helps.

Good luck with this!

Todd

Thanks Todd. I met Todd when he was running MOR and tried to get him to carry our Jammer Number plates. I go far enough back to remember Eddie Fiola racing, yes racing for BME 🙂 Woddy Itson and Martin were also racers before becoming legends. Steve worked for BMXA when I first arrived in SoCal and was also cool to me. Good guys all around. Now if Steve could just learn how to take pictures.
Todd I was at the first ever photo session for the Auburn test out in Diamond Bar. Just too long ago to remember any details. Were you also there for that?
Never knew about the Auburn name, now I’m gonna have to start a trivia contest in some BMX forums.
Email me pictures Todd at bulletproof2000@live.com I’d be glad and excited to post them on the site.

Hard to tell worth. The economy is so bad. Its not worth over $500 and probably not worth less then $150 is about the best guess.
Serial numbers were date coded. Some models had a separate serial number on the rear triangle then on the another on the bottom brackett.

Man, cool website! I used to race back in the day and I stated racing in Nor.Cal. at Moffet field and Santa Clara P.A.L. BMX, both ABA Tracks which back then was BOSS USA land, Actually Cecil ended up being my good buddy a few years later. I moved to So.Cal. and my home track was Coal Canyon, man I loved that track, talk about a pure power track, that’s where I remeber you crusing around the track handing out Jammer designs plates, man I loved em, they fit perfectly on BOSS handle bars, still got a bunch to this day that I used, you were super cool and you always wore a cool hat, was it a cowboy hat? I think you wore a fanny pack to but back then we all did! Anyhow since I had Nor Cal roots all I rode was BOSS, which at that time you didn’t see much in So Cal. When BOSS broke up and Carlo started L&S racing he gave me a sponsorship, that year was 1989 and here’s something funny, all the airline tickets were sold out to get to the grands in OKC and I was desperatly trying to find one, one day at Orange Y, I don’t remember if it was Ray Rohm but someone told me that Todd Huffman had his ticket for sale, so we bought it and I flew to OKC and used Todd’s airline ticket with his name on it and everything! Try doing that in todays world! I got to OKC, Stayed with my team mate Bubba McIntosh and had a great time except for the fact that I got food posioning while I was there, luckily I still made it to the main in Cruiser. Thats my little story in a but shell, those days were amazing and I was blessed to be racing back then. Thanks for putting this site up!

That was my former partner Paul. I started Jammer Designs with him. I left Jammer in summer of 88. I was a Coal Canyon, Orange YMCA local though, when I moved back to California and started Hyper Designs which later changed names to Hyper Bicycles in 1991. I left Hyper (now Hyper Bikes sometime in 1994. I first hooked up the Boss team because I was at the ’87 Grands with Ricky Gilbert and joe Tippit.

I have a question. I own a 91-93 CR20RX and I’m looking to get some new, complete rims for it. Where should I shop?

ebay has the biggest selection. Just lok for any 80s rims like Sunn or Alex with GT hubs.

Hey, quick question, I have an all original 93 auburn, how much do you think they are worth? I’ve had it for quite a few years and was thinking about selling it….thanks for the help!

29 08 2014
Racer

No idea on exact worth. Best to put it up for sale on Craigslist. Ask what you want for it. If you’re too high they will not buy it and you can always lower the price.
